However, it’s important to note that building an over-structure extension may not be possible if your existing structure has single-skin brickwork, as the new brick and block work will need to be twin-leaf. In this case, you may need to install blockwork “piers” in the garage and fix a steel beam over the top, or dig down through the garage floor and install a new foundation and inner leaf. These methods can be expensive, and you’ll likely need a building control permission. To ensure the feasibility of the project, we recommend digging a trial hole to investigate the condition of the foundations.
